ND: Federal agents on Tuesday searched a Jewish school in Monmouth County that has been linked to a man accused of bank fraud.Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie, declined to comment. John Sullivan, a spokesman for the FBI, declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
Deal Yeshiva has been in the news recently because of its affiliation with Solomon Dwek, a multimillionaire developer and a vice president of the school.
Dwek, 33, of Ocean Township, was charged with bank fraud in May, accused of cheating PNC Bank by attempting to deposit two $25 million checks drawn on a closed account and then withdrawing nearly half the money.
The charge carries up to 30 years in prison. Dwek is free on a $10 million bond.
Michael Himmel, an attorney for Dwek, said he was aware of Tuesday’s raid but declined to comment. He has said that Dwek denies the charges.
Dwek, who owns or is a co-owner of an estimated 200 properties around Monmouth County, is being sued by PNC Bank and others.
Dwek’s uncle and other business partners have also filed claims saying Dwek owes them millions. Joseph Dwek, the uncle, said he lent his nephew more than $60 million to buy property, but didn’t realize until recently that they weren’t in his name.
Dwek is the son of prominent Rabbi Isaac Dwek, who is president of the school.
