Lebanon: A Puppet Government

In his assessment delivered to ministers at Sunday’s weekly cabinet meeting, Chief of Military Intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin called Lebanon’s government “a puppet government,” as is evident following the recent events unfolding since Hizbullah’s military action on Friday.

Yadlin explained that Hizbullah does not want to take over Lebanon militarily, well aware it will not be accepted well by the international community, but the terror organization “presses on the gas and then lets go, doing it its own way. The [Lebanese] government collapsed immediately.”

Yadlin stressed that in essence, Hizbullah is the long arm of Iran, now serving as Tehran’s representative along Israel’s northern border. Most of all he stated, the ongoing events in Lebanon is a conflict between the Sunni and Shiite factions.

The current goings-on in Lebanon he stated are at the behest of both Syria and Iran, adding at present, Hizbullah is not interested in escalating the conflict along the border with Israel, but if and when Syria and/or Iran give the order, Hizbullah will comply immediately and inflame the situation along the northern border.

The number one intelligence officer explained that Lebanon’s strength is not in her military, but in her support among the international community.
