Earlier this afternoon, tens of Haredi-Orthodox Jews held a march in Beit Shemesh protesting against Israeli Independence Day. Some of the protesters wore sackcloth and some waved black flags as signs of their mourning the 58th year of Israel’s existence. Rabbi Dr. Daniel Nassi, director of Manof, a Jerusalem-based Haredi anti-defamation organization and Judaic research institute, told Israel National News that such demonstrations are the actions of a “small sect that does not represent Haredi-Orthodoxy. The Haredim are loyal to the state.”
