We’ve all heard the famous quote: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Unfortunately, the healthcare system today is largely designed as a “sick-care” system. Meaning, the average American adult visits their healthcare provider only when a health-related concern arises.
United Refuah HealthShare, the first and only Jewish health-sharing organization*, emphasizes the Torah values of health and wellness. It encourages its members to live pro-active healthy lifestyles and to take preventative measures in order to avoid any health issues and live their best possible lives.
Therefore, the United Refuah HealthShare program includes member-to-member healthcare sharing, not only for medical incidences (aka “sick-care”) but for preventative and wellness care as well.
For adults, this includes $600 of wellness sharing per year. After the first 60 days of membership, members share in $600 toward adult wellness visits, the necessary lab work associated with wellness visits, and well-woman gynecological exams. It’s important to note that United Refuah HealthShare values its members’ financial security and therefore the organization is careful to differentiate between necessary lab work and “low-value” lab work. Unfortunately, many doctors order thousands of dollars of lab work that have very little value to the average person. As per the U.S. Preventative Task Force recommendations, routine preventative/screening colonoscopies, mammograms, and pap smears are eligible for sharing. This is only after the first 60 days of membership and is subject to the annual pre-share amount and co-sharing maximum.
Child wellness visits are eligible for sharing according to the American Academy of Pediatrics well-visit recommendations. Children, ages 2 and up, are eligible for sharing once/year AFTER THE FIRST 60 DAYS. Children under 24 months of age are eligible for more frequent visits EVEN DURING THE FIRST 60 DAYS. Vaccines are eligible for sharing, subject to the annual pre-share amount and co-sharing maximum after the first 60 days.
*United Refuah HealthShare, the first and only Jewish health-sharing organization, offers the American Jewish community a chance to share in each other’s healthcare costs. United Refuah HealthShare is not an insurance company and does not offer insurance. It is a thriving community of like-minded people who support one another, all based on Torah-true principles and values. Currently, it has thousands of active members in more than thirty states across the United States.
United Refuah HealthShare is the program name of Maysville Fellowship Medical Aid Plan, Inc.
