Mayanei Hayeshua’s Mental Health Center now boasts a new in-patient Department of Pediatric Psychiatry. The Department caters to children between the ages of 12 and 18 and includes two separate wards: one for girls and one for boys, and is headed by Dr Leonid Kikinzon, a senior psychiatrist who has worked in several major Israeli hospitals and is the author of several scientific papers.
“This is the only facility in the world that provides psychiatric treatment in a completely gender-separated facility”. Says Dr. Kikinzon. “Until now, parents were reluctant to send their children to other psychiatric facilities. With the opening of our new Pediatric psychiatric department, these teenagers can now be treated in an appropriate environment that respects their cultural background which is known to expedite the rehab process.”
Following a recent visit to the Mental Health Center by a team of quality inspectors from the Scientific Council of the Israel Medical Association, Professor Rael Straus, chief psychiatrist and medical director of the Mental Health Center, was informed that the IMA would be recommending that the psychiatric services be granted full recognition, paving the way for Mayanei Hayeshua to offer psychiatry residency training.

I await the day that we in the USA will have a similar, much-needed, facility!
