Recently the Liska community mourned the petirah of Rebbetzin Nechama Friedlander, a”h, rebbetzin of the Liska Rebbe, Harav Yosef Friedlander, zy”a.
A Sheloshim Seudah will take place on Thursday evening November 29, the night preceding 22 Kislev, at 8pm in Hivnover Bais Medrash under the leadership of her son, the Hivnover Rov Shlita.
The Rebbetzin, daughter of Harav
Avraham Yehoshua Heschel Frankel, the Hivnov-Lubliner Rebbe, grew up in pre-war Vienna and could trace her lineage to Harav Avraham Yehoshua Heschel
of Apt, the Chozeh of Lublin, Reb Elimelech of Lizhensk, Rav Levi Yitzhok of
Berditchev, and Rav Yisroel of Kuzhnitz and the Saar Shalom of Bel
Her
family ancestry was very much intertwined with the Belzer Chassidic dynasty and
its rebbes. In fact, her oldest brother, 18 years her senior, was Harav Shmuel
Frankel, Hy”d, the son-in-law of the Belzer Rebbe Harav Aharon Rokeach, zy”a. The
family shared a close kinship with Belz and in fact it is very likely that the Liska Rebbitzen was perhaps one the last people who remembered having merited
to see the third Belzer Rebbe, Harav Yissochor Dov Rokeach, zy”a, who was
niftar in 1927.
She would often recall the final time she saw him, shortly
before Sukkos, the year before his petirah, how the chassidim would lift him up
on a chair so that he could hang the sukkah decorations. It was on that last
visit that she merited to receive a personal brachah from the Rebbe. Incidentally, she was niftar on 22 Chehvon, the yartzeit of the Belzer Rov.
After surviving Auschwitz, the Rebbitzen and her husband the previous Liska Rebbe were married in 1945 and subsequently transplanted their lives and arrived to the United States in 1947.
After the untimely petria of her husband the previous Liska Rebbitzen in 1971 the Rebbitzen’s entire focus was on preserving the memory of her husband.
The levayah was held in the Liska bais medrash in Boro Park.
She was buried next to her husband on Har Hamenuchos – in a plot he had
selected decades before, as it was near that of Harav Aharon of Belz.
Hespedim were delivered by her sons the current Liska Rebbe, Hivnover Rov and a grandson Harav Hersh Meir Leifer.
The Hivnover Bais Medrash is located at 1157 51St, Brooklyn, NY
