Help us help a boy trying to come back from the brink.
Y.B., a teenager in our community, was raised by an emotionally unavailable mother and a mentally ill father who was unable to keep a job, let alone take care of his son. Y.B. struggled to keep up with his yeshiva curriculum, but without anyone to do homework with him, model Torah values for him, and help him make difficult decisions, he had little success. He bounced from yeshiva to yeshiva, becoming increasingly hopeless with each change. Desperate for guidance and support of any kind, Y.B. fell in with a group of boys who appeared to offer him a home and a community – but in fact offered him little more than drugs. After a few months of these boys’ influence, Y.B. left yeshiva, and for a while it seemed as though he was lost to us for good.
However, with a lot of hard work, time, and siyata dishmaya, local mentors were able to get through to him. They helped Y.B. detach from the destructive influences in his life and form a healthy support system, until finally, Y.B. was eager to start learning again. At first, Y.B.’s yeshiva did not want to take him back, but his mentors advocated for him, and they reconsidered; they will accept him back, they said, if Y.B. attends therapy at least once a week for a year.
So we call upon our Jewish community: Y.B. needs to raise enough money for yeshiva tuition, weekly therapy with a qualified frum mental health professional, and the resources to sustain himself in the most literal sense in a household that cannot take care of him. We estimate the combined costs at about $36,000. Every penny contributed will be put toward enabling the future of this kind, hard-working boy who needs the structure and support he could not receive at home.
May the upcoming year bring bracha and yeshua for Y.B. and all of klal yisrael!
