REFOEINI – THE SONG THAT HEALS

There are rare moments of difficult times when a Neshomo has a deep desire to express both it’s pain and prayer in the form of a heartrending melody. Sometimes this inspiration can emanate even when the soul is hovering between the celestial and earthly spheres.

Such is the story behind our brand new musical sensation entitled Refoeini.

No one prepared the mortgage adviser, Reb Elimelech Blumenberg, for a life altering difficult episode of illness. One day he was overcome by a great weakness, which got worse by the hour that ultimately completely shut down his organs due to septic shock. Upon being taken to hospital in an emergency, the doctors diagnosed a severe case of lung infection. In the intensive care unit, the doctors managed to stabilise his condition, but Rabbi Blumenberg fell into a long and difficult coma.

After a week in coma, Reb Elimelech suddenly awakens and cries out, “Give me my cell phone”. Yes, these were the first words that were uttered upon awakening from a deep coma, that stunned his family and doctors who were constantly around his bed. They did not understand his request. But Reb Elimelech continued to beg for his cell phone with the last of his strengths. Finally, the token fell. His daughter remembered that her father occasionally recorded melodies on a cell phone, and immediately responded to his request. Although in a weakened state, Red Elimelech took the cell phone and began to sing a haunting tune with the words of Refoeini Hashem, a tune that no one has yet heard of. This left his family and doctors stunned, wondering as to how a person, who had just awoken from a deep coma, is able to compose a new song.

Reb Elimelech insists that Refoeini was given to him as a heavenly gift whilst in a coma to actually assist in his recovery. So too, he strongly believes, just like Refoeini had cured him of his illness, so would the song heal others.

Refoeini is sung by his very own son Yossi Blumenberg, who has for some time appeared on stage as part of choirs performing at special events. Rabbi Elimelech did not spare anything when wanting to produce the song. So he collaborated with renowned producer in London, Lazer Levy of Sound Sonic Studios, who had put heart and soul into the production, that has a classic feel of yesteryear that portrays the deepest of emotions, thus touching the hearts and souls of many a listener.

There is no doubt the discerning listener will be nourished by the spiritual treasure trove of musical gems to be had in Refoeini, not only because of the meaningful words and warmth of the composition, but also due to the rich orchestral sentiments combined with the purity of an innocent child’s voice.
