Rain Moves Into The NYC Area Through Friday


rainA trough of low pressure will remain nearby through Friday. A cold front approaches late on Friday and passes through Friday night. High pressure builds in on Saturday. Another cold front approaches Monday and pushes offshore Tuesday night. High pressure builds in for Wednesday and remains in control through the end of the work week.

Showers in Northern New Jersey are moving slowly from the west at 15 mph. If the system stays intact it can have heavy downpours that will impact the New York City area just before the evening rush hour.  Rainfall rates of up to one-inch per hour are possible with these downpours. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Scattered showers will then move into the area through the evening hours with some localized heavy downpours possible. New rainfall amounts between a one-quarter and one-half of an inch are possible. Chance of rain is 60%. Tomorrow, showers with thunderstorms continue with totals possibly reaching one inch to one-half inch, and two inches possible in localized areas. Chance of rain increases to 60%.
