The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for New York City.
It will be in effect until midnight Tuesday.
The forecast calls for hot and humid weather on Monday with temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s. But the weather service says the heat index on Monday will make it feel more like 101.
On Tuesday, the heat index is estimated to be 99.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management advises seniors and people with health conditions to stay in air conditioned areas. It says all New Yorkers should avoid strenuous activity and drink plenty of water.
Anyone overcome by heat should call 911.
The OEM says city cooling centers at senior centers, libraries and community centers will be open through Thursday.
