In a major boost to Queens Assemblyman Rory Lancman’s city council bid, Millionaire Isaac Sasson dropped out of the race Tuesday.
“Isaac will be focusing his efforts on his philanthropy and his related positions in the Orthodox Jewish community,” the campaign said in a statement.
Sasson, a Sephardic Orthodox rabbi and leader in the Lebanese community, ran 1n 2003 against then Councilman John Liu. He also narrowly lost a City Council bid in 2009 and a state Senate bid in 2010.
Assemblyman Lancman running for the seat currently held by term-limited City Councilman James Gennaro, still faces a primary challenge by community activist Andrea Veras.
