Residents of Bay Ridge are asking for speed cameras to be installed in the area.
The speeding cameras would snap a photo and ticket drivers going over the city’s speed limit. Members of the Transportation Alternatives group support the plan and have collected 1,000 signatures from Bay Ridge residents who want the cameras installed.
Currently, speed camera legislation has stalled in the state Legislature. Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in support of speeding cameras, but state Sen. Marty Golden is against the plan. He has said that more police and prosecution of reckless driving is the effective way to reduce speeding.
