New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the gun-control bill that the U.S. Senate will take up next week is “not perfect” but will take the country most of the way toward “rational” gun laws.
The Senate will consider a proposal to expand required federal background checks to gun shows and online firearms sales.
Bloomberg said on his WOR Radio show Friday that the bill takes the country “90 percent” of the way toward “rational” gun laws.
The co-chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns said he wished Congress would ban all assault weapons except for military use. But he acknowledged that is “not going to happen at the moment.”
The billionaire mayor has backed candidates who support gun restrictions. He said he’ll do so again.
