Long Island Could Get Up To 15 Inches Of Snow

Long Island could get up to 15 inches of snow and possibly more in some spots.

The National Weather Service says it could be accompanied by 60 mph winds that could knock out power and reduce visibility.

A blizzard warning is in effect from 6 a.m. Friday until 1 p.m. Saturday.

The weather service says the storm surge is expected to be three to five feet above high tide on the Long Island Sound and two to four feet on the South Shore.

Newsday says LIPA is giving contractor National Grid control of managing its response to the storm.

The National Grid says the storm could cause more than 100,000 outages. It’s securing hundreds of extra workers and expects most outages to be restored within 24 hours.
