A light wintery mix of precipitation is moving into the New York City area. Precipitation will change over to rain later this morning before colder air moves in this afternoon. Precipitation will change to all snow later this afternoon bringing heavy snow to the area through Saturday morning. Winds will also increase today bringing strong gusty winds in the afternoon.
PRECIPITATION AND TIMING
Currently a wintery mix of precipitation is starting to fall over New York City, it will change to all rain later this morning. Rain will transition back to snow this afternoon, with all snow starting to fall between 3:00 and 4:00 this afternoon. Snow will be heavy and last through the morning hours of Saturday.
Snow coupled with strong winds this evening will bring blizzard conditions to the area. Snowfall totals of 10-15 inches is expected with locally higher amounts possible. The heaviest snowfall will be between 5:00 PM and Midnight.

WINDS
Winds this today will be out of the East northeast at 10-20 MPH with gusts 20-30 MPH.
Winds will increase in the afternoon and will be out of the North at 20-30 with gusts of 40-50 MPH.
FLOODING
Minor coastal flooding is expected in the NY Harbor and south facing shores this evening and Saturday morning. Moderate coastal flooding is expected in the Western Long Island Sound for the high tide tonight between 10:00 and 11:00 PM. Minor coastal flooding is expected tor the Western Long Island Sound for Saturday mornings high tide.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect citywide until 1:00 PM Saturday.
A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for The Bronx and Northern Queens from 6:00 PM Friday to midnight Friday night..
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from Manhattan, Staten Island and Brooklyn from 4 PM today to 10 AM Saturday.
A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect for The Bronx and Northern Queens for Saturday morning.
