Homeowners who are recovering from Hurricane Sandy and getting temporary rental assistance through FEMA will have to recertify if they want extended benefits. The agency initially gave applicants four months of rental assistance, but they might be eligible for additional money if their damaged homes still aren’t livable.
FEMA says it needs homeowners to recertify so it only gives out money to people who still need it.
