NYC: Snow Expected on Fri Night, Cold Temperatures to Continue Through Weekend

An area of low pressure is expected to pass south of the New York City area sometime Friday through Friday night/early Saturday morning and bring with it wintry precipitation. Additionally, temperatures and wind chill values that are 10-15 degrees below normal will continue to impact NYC through the weekend as arctic air continues to blanket the area. There is a high degree of variability in the forecast track and timing, as the energy associated with this storm system is currently entering the Pacific Coast (near the Gulf of Alaska). There is currently a 30% chance of the area receiving six (6) inches of snow. Better information is expected on Wednesday and Thursday as the energy is better sampled.

PRECIPITATION AND TIMING

Snow is expected to begin sometime Friday afternoon and continue through Friday night or early Saturday morning. It is too soon to determine the total snowfall accumulation as there is high variability in the models.
