Bitter cold is descending on the tri-state area following a weekend of such mild temperatures that many New Yorkers strolled the streets without wearing a coat.
Meteorologists say temperatures dip to highs in the mid-30s Monday — a more than 20 degree-drop from temperatures on Sunday.
A weak winter storm is expected to pass to the south and east of the city Monday afternoon and evening, coating the area with about an inch of light snow.
Temperatures turn brutally cold overnight and the wind is expected to pick up, creating wind chills near zero in some suburbs Tuesday morning that will make it feel like the single digits outside. Wind chills below zero are possible Wednesday morning, and temperatures aren’t expected to make it out of the 20s until Friday as another storm approaches the region.
