The MTA’s new Subway Time app is now available for all smartphones.
It isn’t meant to help you down in a station because most phones won’t get a signal down there. Instead it can help you above ground as you’re on your way to the subway and planning your trip.
You launch the app, then tap whatever line you’re interested in and the station location, and it’ll give you the time your train will arrive in real time.
The MTA says the app is another tool to help riders with their busy schedules.
Gene Russianoff of the advocacy group Straphangers Campaign said the app makes it safer for people who have to take the subway at night or overnight.
For now the app provides information on the Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 lines and the 42nd Street shuttle. The MTA says eventually the app will cover other lines as well.
