Flatbush: Three Killed in Early Morning Crash On Ave U & E. 5

Three passengers were killed Saturday in an early-morning collision between two vehicles in Brooklyn, police said.

Andre Capers-Jones, 26, and Leonora Lavaud, 24, both of Brooklyn, who were in a red 2009 Toyota Camry when it was T-boned by a black 2003 Acura, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 2 a.m. crash at East 5th Street and Avenue U, officials said.

Capers-Jones was driving the Camry northbound on East 5th Street when the speeding driver of the eastbound Acura, who was also pronounced dead but had not yet been identified Saturday, slammed into the Toyota at the intersection, police said.

Three passengers inside the Acura were rushed to Lutheran Hospital, with one man in critical condition, police said. Two women were in stable condition, officials said.

The Acura had been speeding when it ran through a steady red light at the Avenue U and East 5th Street intersection, police said following an investigation.

Six other cars were damaged in the smash-up, as well as a bus, including a parked 2011 Honda Odyssey and 2007 Lincoln Town Car, which were hit by the Acura as it went spinning after the crash, cops said. The Town Car then slammed into a parked 2011 Mazda CX9, police said.

The Toyota slid east on the roadway, hitting a stopped MTA bus, as well as a parked 2011 Mercedes, which in turn slammed into a 2012 Honda Pilot, police said.
