A 20-year-old New Jersey man died Tuesday after apparently drowning in a popular lake in Harriman State Park in New York, according to a report from The Journal News.
A state park police spokesman told the newspaper emergency responders were called to Pine Meadow Lake shortly after 6 p.m. The victim was swimming with two friends, according to the report, who said he was trying to swim the entire distance of the lake when he went under.
Pine Meadow Lake has no lifeguards and swimming is prohibited, the report said.
The victim’s identity was still not released this morning. Police in Tuxedo deferred requests for further information to the New York Palisades Interstate Park Commission, who said “no further information is available” at this time.
