A week after undercover video shot by Rockland County legislator Frank Sparaco (R) was released showing Rockland Democratic Party attorney Larry Weissman implicating his boss, Democratic Party Chairwoman Kristen Zebrowski Stavisky, in an alleged plot to trade a government salary hike, benefits, and a paid family vacation for underhanded political support of a Democratic candidate, the Democratic Chairwoman remains strangely silent, neither admitting nor refuting what was said on the tapes, noted the Rockland County Republican Party today. Ms. Zebrowski Stavisky also serves as commissioner of the Rockland Board of Elections.
The tapes also show Democratic Highway Superintendent candidate Dennis Malone, whose candidacy was central to the alleged plot, implicating Ms. Zebrowski Stavisky in saying that she “knows for sure” about the arrangements.
“A candidate for public office and the counsel to the Rockland Democratic Party have both tied Ms. Zebrowski Stavisky to this scandal with their words, so why hasn’t she refuted them?,” asked Rockland Republican Chairman Vincent D. Reda. “If someone wrongly used my name in a situation like this, I’d fire him instantly. As party chairwoman and Board of Elections Commissioner, Ms. Zebrowski Stavisky has an obligation to the public to address the claims made about her.
“If Ms. Zebrowski Stavisky denies what was said,” Chairman Reda continued,” she needs, at a minimum, to dismiss Mr. Weissman as counsel and distance herself from Mr. Malone’s candidacy.”
