A line of powerful thunderstorms has wreaked havoc in the Hudson Valley today.
High winds and heavy rain helped uproot trees in many spots including dozens on Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers.
Flash flooding closed part of the Bronx River Parkway in White Plains, the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville, and Route 119 and I-87 in Elmsford.
Police in Yonkers, N.Y., said an estimated 50 trees were down on Riverdale Avenue, and numerous trees hit power lines in the Nodine Hill area. Con Edison crews were on scene to restore power to several hundred customers who lost it.
The National Weather Service said cars were stranded in floodwaters in some areas of Westchester County.
The showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Tuesday, the weather service said. Monday’s high should hit around 80, while temperatures are expected in the upper 60s Monday night.
Tuesday, forecasters are calling for highs in the lower 80s.
