Heavy rains through the day today are expected to once again cause problems on area roadways.
Local DPW crews say that typical flood-prone roads, such as the Saw Mill River, Bronx River, and Palisades parkways, as well as Route 59 are expected to have flooding today. Speed restrictions of 45 mph are in effect at the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The Saw Mill River Parkway in particular has had numerous problems so far this season. Heavy rains shut down a stretch of parkway between Manville Road and Marble Avenue near exit 27 three times in the past two weeks.
DPW officials say dangerous conditions are created when it rains heavily because the water causes drivers to suddenly slam on the brakes or start hydroplaning, and the end result could be a multi-car accident.
