At about 8:20PM on Sunday evening, officers from the Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of a fight with possible gunshots fired in the area of #6 East Hickory Street in the Hillcrest section of the Town. Upon arrival to the scene the first officers located a black male on the side porch of 5 East Hickory Street. This male was later identified as Riccardo Barrett, 22 years old, of Slinn Ave, Spring Valley NY. Barrett had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was treated at the scene by Rockland Paramedics and Spring Hill Ambulance Corps, who also transported him to Good Samaritan Hospital ER. Shortly after arriving in the ER, Barrett was pronounced dead by ER Doctors. The Rockland County Medical Examiner then removed Barrett’s body to their office for an autopsy.

It appears that Barrett had some type of verbal and physical altercation on the street with a black male. During the altercation this male pulled out a hand gun and shot Barrett in the chest. The male then fled the area on foot. Their second male is described as black, 5’9” tall, medium completion, black hair which is braided, he was last seen wearing a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt, and dark colored pants. The gun was only described as a handgun.

At this time the Ramapo Police are attempting to locate, Otha Williams (20 years old) of Vyce Ave Bronx NY as a person of interest. Williams may be in the Spring Valley/Hillcrest area.

The Ramapo PD Investigations division will be conducting an investigation assisted by the Rockland County BCI and Rockland County ME’s Office. Anyone with information should the Ramapo Police Department at (845) 357-2400.
