A utility says it has found a gap in an underground gas connection that may have contributed to an explosion at a suburban college.
Tuesday’s explosion at Nyack College in South Nyack injured seven people. None of the injuries was life-threatening.
A spokesman for Orange & Rockland Utilities says workers found that a service pipe leading to the college gym had pulled away from the main. He says there was a significant release of gas.
However, he says the utility has not yet established that gas from that opening made its way to the building that exploded.
And he says the cause of the damage to the pipe is not known, although there was some nearby construction work.
