The $4.6 million security system on the five bridges operated by the New York State Bridge Authority has been completed.
The monitoring system is live and operational, said Bridge Authority Executive Joseph Ruggiero.
“We have a command center to monitor all of the facilities and we have some very cool things in terms of monitoring in terms of traffic and river traffic and we share those feeds with other agencies in law enforcement as they need it and it has been really helpful for us to be transformative here in the Bridge Authority in terms of security for our own operation,” Ruggiero said.
The grant for the upgrade came from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the US Coast Guard.
