White House national security communications adviser John Kirby says that President Biden is working on “phase one” of a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, which would be “six weeks of no fighting” to bring in humanitarian aid to Gaza and release the most at-risk hostages held by Hamas.

He says that if that’s achieved, then “you can get to phase two,” which “of course would be a general cease-fire.”
