An emergency meeting was held in Eretz Yisroel today by the Israel police’s traffic department, following a wave of deadly traffic accidents in the country – which left 14 people R”L dead in the last week!!
During the meeting, it was decided that the traffic department would increase the number of patrol cars during night and weekend shifts. The department would also increase the number of rented vehicles used for undercover activity.
Traffic police will focus on checking truck drivers, and will increase the number of random routine license checks. In addition, drivers caught behind the wheel despite their licenses being revoked, will be arrested and remain in custody until the completion of legal procedures.

There is no system of Driver Education in place in Israel, plus no 5hr prelicensing theory courses required. Safety & Defensive Driving is not emphasized during driver training. Bhatslacha Raba,,
One thing that worries me here is that the person “will be arrested and remain in custody until the completion of legal procedures.” As we all know in EY the completion or legal procedures can take forever and they like to hold people in jail for a long time while they “investigate.”
Maybe, just maybe…
If the roads would be clear on Shabbos Kodesh…
ארץ אשר ה’ א’ דרש אתה תמיד עיני ה’ א’ בא מראשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה
Eretz Yisroel has a special kedushah & a special koach. The roads themselves are being doresh!
And how exactly will that contribute to a decrease in the number of accidents?
Selfish and impatient driving is the main cause.
Emphasis should be place on dangerous habits like:
1. Cutting in front of lane from the right.
2. Driving too close to car ahead.
3. Overtaking without visibility.
4. Honking to tell the car ahead to go faster.
Reduce the road rage and driving will become a pleasure rather than a nightmare.
#3 There are many individuals in Israel that are NOT required by 613 mitzvohs, so the roads will not and should not be empty on shabbos. Let us deal with improving safety for the 6 other days of the week.
Dvorah,
Yes, Maier is correct. I actually posted my comment in response to #1 & #2, before Maier posted his.
bklynmom, i dont where you get your information from, but here in israel you must take 28 40 minute lessons with a teacher
and safety and defensive driving is emphasized plenty in the theory book.
geshmake’bachur’
The info is from the mouth of my Israeli families, who received their auto and motorcycle licenses. 28 40 minutes lessons with a teacher is an overkill, due to the monopoly of the AutoCompany and the government (without any focus on defensive driving). Did you know that is the reason that hundreds of Israelis take their tests here in America, where no specific lessons are required(a problem of its own),in order to save over 2000 shekel? There is no specific testing given on theory (lots of info if its read), unless this has changed in the last 18 months.
bklynmom, please check your facts again because this week i took a theory test.
Dvorah & sayitlikeitis, you missed my point. REST your car on Shabbos (ve’es behemtecha?), & it’ll WORK the other six days. It’s a garanteed brochah. Of course it only works for those that are mechuyev lishbose. (Remember Pincos ben Yoer’s mule?)
