On Wednesday evening, dozens of Chaifa residents complained to local authorities of eye sores, strong odors, and difficulty breathing. This morning, The Ministry of Environmental Protection on Wednesday identified the source of heavy air pollution in the Haifa Bay area believed to be responsible for causing eye irritations in dozens of local residents and for pungent odors in the city.

Checks performed by the ministry and the Haifa Bay Municipalities Organization identified the emissions of the Protarom chemical plant and the unauthorized burning of tires and plastics at a commercial center near the Kiryat Atta junction as responsible for the pollution.
