Cellcom Network Crashes In Haifa & Northern Israel

The network of Cellcom Israel has crashed in Haifa and the north, disrupting mobile telephone and Internet services. The crash comes six months after the company suffered a nationwide crash of its network. Dozens of Cellcom’s mobile sites in the north reportedly broke down, blacking out telephone and data services.

Cellcom’s rivals, Orange franchisee Partner Communications and Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication mobile subsidiary Pelephone Communications are also having problems.

The breakdown occurred in Cellcom’s 3G network and many subscribers were transferred to the company’s 2.5G GSM network.

On December 1, 2010, Cellcom’s network crashed nationwide.

  1. Incompetence or hackers? Suspicious that all companies are having network problems at the same time.

  2. Not so surprising. If one network goes people flock to the remaining ones which overload and the problem cascades. Also, environmental factors: downed cables, broken fiber optic lines, electrical outages, etc. may be affecting all carriers.
