Tragedy In Yerushalayim. Infant Chokes to Death R”L on Piece of Plastic

dc1 cover.jpgA one-and-a-half year old child has R”L choked to death on a plastic bag Wednesday on a Bais Yisroel street. MDA & Hatzolah medics attempted to resuscitate the toddler at a nearby health clinic & failed, and the child R”L died at Hadassah Hospital.

The child’s nanny (babysitter) told police that she found him unconscious with the plastic bag on his head.

Dozens of people have rioted at the entrance to the hospital after word spread that they were going to preform an autopsy on the child.

Boruch Hashem, after heavy negotiations ZAKA has secured the release of the body intact – with the object being removed – a disposable plastic tablecloth.

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that police are expected to press charges against the nanny for negligence.

  1. Boruch Dayan Emes, may we only hear good news and may the family recover from this tragedy.

About the charges though, I am just wondering had the child been with the MOTHER would there have been charges as well?

  2. I know of a case in the US where a child drowned due to negligence on the part of her mother and she wasnt charged!

  3. HEY, HEY!! THERE IS A TRAGEDY GOING ON HERE!! A LITTLE SYMPATHY!! A LITTLE RACHMANUS!! LET US FEEL BAD FOR ALL PARTY’S INVOLVED!! IS IT REALLY IMPORTANT TO DISCUSS WHETHER OR NOT SHE WILL BE CHARGED??
WASN’T THERE ANOTHER “TRAGEDY POSTING” ON THIS SITE WHERE THE EDITOR HIMSELF RECOMMENDED THATY WE USE OUR HEADS BEFORE POSTING AN INSENSITIVE OR IRRELEVANT COMMENT???

    WHAT IS THIS!?!

  4. another sad event that we,as fellow Jews ,must suffer and think about self-improvement.ברוך דין האמת

  5. We should also learn from this unfortunate tragedy. Make sure that children do not play with baloons & any type of plastic (bags, tableclothes, etc.). It is easily swallowed and almost impossible to remove from the throat.

  6. nameless: Every case is different in the details. There could have been mitigating circumstances.

By the way, WHY wasn’t that woman put up on charges?

  7. Donno know details but I guesse if there was no malice there was no need. If a driver mistakenly hits a pedestrian without any intent, is he charged?

  8. 10: Intent is likely irrelevant; negligence is the issue here.

5: I don’t know. Maybe it is important? Clearly everyone is sympathetic to the family and, perhaps even more so, to the nanny. We all know that it could happen to anyone. Also, why exactly do we, or should we, care what the editor (himself) recommends? There are guidelines for posting; if posts do not fall within those guidelines, they’re not approved.

  9. nameless: “If a driver mistakenly hits a pedestrian without any intent, is he charged?”

If the driver is Jewish and the victim is Black, then yes. Otherwise, no. at least that’s the way it is in New York City.

  10. They’re probably filing charges because it’s a high-profile case. There was a riot, and so forth, and now everyone knows about it.

  11. IAMECKSTEIN,

This is a terrilbe tragedy no doubt and no one isbeing insensitive. However lets not forget that this was ‘maaseh soton’and it was ‘bashert’. I am absolutly sure that the nanny feels horribley guilty about this and feels very sad that she was the chosen to be the ‘negligent ‘ here. Dont you think there should be a drop of sympathy for her as well??

  12. My question is how did the child get the plastic? If he found it on the street then it’s a tragic that could have been prevented. I was in ירושלים a few months ago and was very upset when I saw how unclean the streets were. ארץ ישראל is a holy place! If people had more respect to our land and kept the holy streets clean this tragedy could have been prevented. If he had it in the carriage or whatever then his nanny should defiantly be responsible!!

The 1991 Crown Heights pogroms(riots) started when a Jewish man accidentally hit a “black” child and killed him. No charges of any kind were ever brought against the Jewish driver.

Reb_Motcha – I gotcha Its time you stopped wallowing jn Jewish victimhood and racism.

  14. POOR BABY,poor Mommy,poor nanny
Never leave any plastic bags around little children! Are babies being cared for as mere objects,or as precious little humans? People must take responsibility more serious,if they’re adults .The halachah is no different,.And,we,should not discuss here guilt and punishment;we are not the jury,we were not witnesses. It is a sign min shomayim to all of us,for introspection;we’re all hurting.Let’s have more respect for each other!
