Petirah of Naroler Rebbe ZATZAL

candle2.gif(Photo in extended article) YW regrets to inform you of the Petirah of the Naroler Rebbe ZATZAL a short while ago in Bnei Brak. The Levaya will be leaving from his Bais Medrash on Rechov Rashi in Bnei Brak, then to Belz in Yerushalayim and finally to Har Hamenuchos. He was one of the last links to pre-war Europe and was 99 years-old (would have turned 100 in Elul) by his Petirah. He lived in New York after the war before moving to Eretz Yisroel. His son is a Rov in Flatbush. May he be a Maylitz Yosher for Gantz Klal Yisroel.

  1. Boruch Dayan Emmes. He was a great tzaddik and will be sorely missed, not just by his chasidim but by the whole of klal yisroel who merited having had the zchus of him living in our dor

  2. I did not know him. I am sure he was a Tzadik Yisod Olam.

But I am curious — not about him, but about other Rebbes.

How come I hear about so many different Rebbes that I never heard of when I was kid, some 35 years ago? Where did all these Rebbes come? Why did we never heard such names 30 years ago? Did they all come to the USA since then? (Which is possible, I’m sure.)

  3. I would like to make it clear to all YW readers the Naroler Ruv z’l was not a rebbe he was a ruv in the town of Narol in Galicia and all his years he was a Belzer chosid and traveled to to spend Shabosim and Yomim Tovim with the Belzer Rabbes.
He was born In Elul 5667 and when was a Buchar he was crowned to be the Ruv in his Kehilla.
After the war he was living in Antwerp and about 5710 he came to America and lived in Crown Heights.
He moved to Eretz Yisroel for the last 30 years where he had his Beis Hamedrash in Benei Barak and he traveled very often to Yerushlayim to be with the yblt’a current Belzer Rebbe.
His petirah was one of the moves of changing a genaration where Belz and Klal Yisroel lost a Ruv who served a Kehilla for about 20 years before WWII.
His only son is Reb Berish Shapiro who has his Beis Hamedrash in Flatbush.

  4. The Naroler Rov ztzl lived for many years in Crown Heights after arriving from Europe before moving to Eretz Yisroel about 35 years ago and had a great effect upon all those that knew him. Where did you live 35 years ago, Reb Motcha? I am certain not in Crown Heights.

  5. Okay, you make a point. 35 years ago I lived in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Prior to that I lived in Borough Park, but I was only ten, so I wouldn’t have known anyway. But I lived in Borough Park again from 1979 until 2004 or so, and my first years in BP I did not hear about so many Rebbes (may they all be gezunt).
