Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has officially appointed his former finance minister Salam Fayyad as the new PA prime minister on Friday afternoon. Naturally, a short while later – PA Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, who yesterday defied Abbas’s “presidential decree” to dissolve the Hamas-led government (as reported HERE on YW), called for unity among Palestinians and urged people to remain calm as fighters from his Hamas movement consolidated their hold on Gaza.
