Kahane Supporters Clash With Arabs; Neturei Karta Stand With Arabs; Injuries & Arrests Reported

Ynet News reports:

A day after attending a memorial service for Rabbi Meir Kahane, dozens of his supporters traveled from Jerusalem to the northern Arab town of Umm al-Fahm on Wednesday to protest against the Islamic Movement under tight police security.

They were faced by hundreds of residents of the town and surrounding communities. Massive police forces fired tear gas and stun grenades at dozens of Arab and left-wing protestors, some of whom began hurling stones.

The rightists were returned to their buses following the protest, and police forces stormed the crowd and arrested nine of the stone throwers.

Knesset Member Afu Aghbaria (Hadash) was lightly injured in the leg, apparently by a stun grenade. Balad MK Hanin Zoabi sustained light wounds as well and was treated in a local clinic. A soldier disguised as an Arab was also wounded and evacuated to a hospital in unclear condition.

Rightist Itamar Ben-Gvir said during the protest that “only in the State of Israel a faction can call for a third intifada, organize a flotilla and hurt IDF soldiers, while we’re helpless.” His protestors chanted, “Death to terrorists” and the police confiscated a sign with that slogan, after confiscating signs reading “throw out (Islamic Movement leader) Raed Salah.”

Knesset Member Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) said the Islamic Movement was part of the global al-Qaeda terror organization. “We are not afraid,” he shouted.

“Rabbi Kahane was called delusional, but today it turns out that more and more citizens understand his ideas,” Ben-Gvir said. His colleague, Baruch Marzel, said that “if we concede Umm al-Fahm we’ll concede Tel Aviv too,” while the protestors continued to chant, “Death to the Arabs” and “Umm al-Fahm is Jewish.”

A number of Neturi Karta members protested alongside the residents, holding signs reading, “Zionist murderers” and “Arabs yes, Zionists no.”

“We are an organization which doesn’t just talk, but also acts. We think the Iranian danger is not as big as the Islamic Movement which is like a fifth column inside the country, a Trojan Horse, which wants to destroy everything,” extreme rightist Baruch Marzel told Ynet while making his way to Umm al-Fahm.

“The healthy part of the people of Israel must rise up and take action. It’s unthinkable that the Kach movement would be outlawed while the Islamic Movement acts insidiously and gets away with it.”

Umm al-Fahm mayor Sheikh Khaled Hamdan claimed that “this mess taking place here this morning is insane. It’s not normal that 1,500 policemen have to be brought here because of one racist lunatic. We are not the one looking for a provocation. This visit is creating a provocation in the entire region.

Representatives of the Zion Warriors organization, which is affiliated with Kahane’s supporters, participated in the protest as well. “We came here, four secular activists,” said Tamir Sassi, 26. “We are rightists, love the Land of Israel and make sure to be present in any place with leftists or Arabs. I’m here to support the protest against Raed Salah, who is building a terror organization inside Israel.”

  1. You are either with us or against us!

Neturei Karta prove time and time again that they are against us.

Why don’t we do more to stop their perpetual chillul Hashem?

  2. Since the NK issue has been brought up, I would like to share a quote I found online from Rav Henkin Zt”l :

(Intro) Rav Henkin vigorously opposed Zionism, but once the State of Israel was established he declared the need to support its continued existence, and denounced those who tried to undermine it. In 1959 he wrote:

“I was shocked to read in Chomoteinu (Cheshvan 5719) the slanderous notion that we are required to give our lives to frustrate and resist the efforts of the State of Israel in its struggle against those who would rise up against them. This was stated as a psak din based on “Israel is restricted from rebelling against the nations.” (Ketubot 111a) […] but once done, though the admonition was ignored, we are required to support them with mesirut nefesh. […] Once the state was declared, anyone who plays into the hands of the nations of the world even where there is no imminent danger, is clearly an informer and pursuer (rodef). All the more when there is danger to destruction of life in so doing. […] Those essays I wrote before the advent of the state (many of which have been reprinted in my book Leiv Ivra) will testify to the fact that I am not a supporter of the government, and I objected to the entire idea of a state. (It is for this reason I am not a member of Agudah so that I not be judged incorrectly as one who agreed with their position in the founding of the state.) But now it is our obligation that we all support the state in the face of its external enemies and then go on to guide it in the ways of Torah.”

  3. I was very interested to read that the Israelis had soldiers dressed up as arabs (1 was injured) as undercover at the demonstration. And I see the palestinians have copied and had some of their chevra dressed up as jews at the demonstration. They’re easy to spot. They’re the ones holding the Neturei Karta placards…

  4. It is the Kahana crowd that is being mchalel shem shomayim. Why are they travelling to Uhm al Fahm? What do they want to gain by stiring the emotions of Israeli Arabs? They are picking fights and playing with fire. It is for many a good reason that many gedolei yisroel opposed Kahana and his ideology.
The Neturei Karta are probably right for demonstrating in this instance.9Though there signs are off-putting) The Arabs should know that not all Frum/Religious people are Kahana sympathizers or settlers.

  5. To respond to #6.

Part of your point is well taken. Perhaps these type of protests do not accomplish much for Jews and they end up angering Arabs…

BUT do not forget that these “kahane symathizers or settlers” are on the Jewish side and the NK with their “off putting signs” are on the side of the Arab terrorists. Even if Jews sometimes are foolish about their expression of commitment to Israel, do not side with the enemy.

  6. A Jew is permitted and allowed to live in the State of Israel and as a citizen can visit anywhere. Just as an Arab can walk through the Kotel Plaza, Old City, Meah Shearim or any other area he/she desires.

If 1500 police force are needed to maintain quiet and peace when Jews walk through UhmalFahm, can u imagine how many police/army/security will be needed if there is C”V”S(chasveshalom) an Arab Terror State bordering on Israel.

Umm al-Fahm mayor Sheikh Khaled Hamdan claimed that “We are not the one looking for a provocation. This visit is creating a provocation in the entire region”–What is the provocation, MR MAYOR???

  7. I fail to see the difference between neo nazis and people like these kahana-niks. Take their rhetoric and replace every time they refer to ‘Jews’ with ‘Aryans’ and ‘Arabs’ with ‘Jews’. Also, how can you condemn the Westboro Baptist people and at the same time support Jews going up to Arabs screaming ‘Death to Arabs’… get real people…

  8. Zionflag, I wouldn’t be suprised in the police where there as much to insure that the Kahane group didnt attack the Arabs as to make sure arab residents didnt attack the protesters. After all, Kahane supporters do not have the best non-violent record towards arabs (think Chevron in the 1980s), especially in light of recent attacks against mosques, schools and cemeteries.

  9. #8 Zion Flag I assume that your logic applies to secular Jews as well. If so the planned secular march through Bnei Brak against Yeshiva stipends would also not be a provocation. Well I guess some would just disagree with you. A spokesman for the Bnei Brak Municipality said the march would “ignite” the city and “turn it into hell.”

According to your logic since the members of the Westboro Church have a right to protest anywhere that in turn means that when they excersice their right they are not being provacitive. I assume many would disagree on that point.

Jews can go anywhere in Israel but to demonstrate in an Arab area and refer to them all as a fifth column IS PROVOCATIVE!

  10. #11

Yes 100% are they allowed to protest, wether non frum againts the the frum (the frum do it to them) Westboro have a constitutional right to protest and they should be allowed to do as such, and they should be able to express themselves without fear of being attacked. The Kahanist point of view is to show you that while a muslim can wal anywhere in Eretz Hakodesh a yid cannot, and your point of jews can go anywhere in Israel is naive at best stupid at its worst. The point of the demonstartion is look what their doing when we come into one “their” areas….what happens when they want to move into your area and kick you out? will you leave so as not to couse PROVOCATION?? i expect the answer to be of course not! i hope that your responce to this aggresion would be to turn over the world just so a yid can walk without fear in his own place. This is what their doing.

How do you have the chutzpah to equate the Kahanists to the Nazis?!?!?!?!?!?

Did the jews in the 1930’s do smthing to provoke the Germans?!?!?

Are you saying that the Arabs are just innocent bystanders?!?!?

The Kahanists are figting againts a people that want to wipe us off the map, and your calling them NAZI’S?!?!?

you are a very very sick and twisted individual.

  12. 14 – You apparently missed some of the article, allow me to quote it for you

“His colleague, Baruch Marzel, said that “if we concede Umm al-Fahm we’ll concede Tel Aviv too,” while the protestors continued to chant, “Death to the Arabs” and “Umm al-Fahm is Jewish.”

IDK about you, but I get images of kristalnacht when I hear things like this.

What if skinheads came to your neighborhood and started yelling ‘Death to Ch***t-killers”? Would you honestly believe that they only meant the Jews who actually support killing their god?

13- Lol – whats the difference between them wanting to ‘wipe us off the map’ and us wanting to do the same to them? Every accusation you may have about Arabs is equally true about Kahanists.

  13. Also, 12 – The simple fact is that an Arab cannot walk anywhere in Israel as simply as you make it sound. I lived in the Old City for a period of time and I saw the police profiling old men and women and making them present identification just for being Arabs. I’ve also seen how Jews in Israel take pride in discriminating against arabs, cursing them out and attacking them. Kahanist thinking dehumanizes the Arabs and is shocked that some in the Arab community dehumanize us.

  14. Compare the life of an Arab in Israel to a Jew in Syria. The human rights and dignity given to an Arab, even when asked for ID, if a far-cry to the treatment of Jews in any Arab country..
    Be HONEST, ACCURATE and REALISTIC!!!

  15. shintav, as a jew how could you say such horrible remarks?!!! We have a justifiable reason for hating the arabs. Their ultimate desire is to wipe us off the face of the earth. Granted, there are those who are indifferent, however, they are certainly not the majority. halachikly, many of them should be killed. The kahanists have a major justification for saying death to the arabs.

  16. 19 – you’re proving my point. As I said before, you just have to switch a few nouns and thats exactly what Hamas is telling people in Gaza. In this case, switch ‘Arabs’ and ‘Jews’, ‘halakha’ to ‘sharia’ and ‘kahanists’ to ‘hamas’. At the end of the day if you want to stereotype an entire class of people as evil and use that as justification to do bodily harm to the, there is literally no difference between you and Bin Laden. No good comes out of and ideology that permits and validates hatred and racism. There are more productive ways to solve these problems, this viewpoint just makes everything worse.

18 – I don’t understand why there should be any equivalency between how the theocratic dictatorships in the Middle East treat their citizens and how a democratic country should treat its citizens. Our goal has to be either to promote the well-being of all citizens, Jewish or otherwise, or to reduce ourselves to ‘just another Middle Eastern government’ complete with the racism, ethnic cleansing, totalitarianism and institutionalized abuse of Human rights. If there are Arabs who we can prove are terrorists, then we should deal with them using due process(an innovation Israel could really use for Jews also). The reaction to hate them and throw them out is simply evil.

  17. 19 – I hope that you live in Israel and thats why it says you posted on שבת b/c if you’re a מחלל שבת then we’ve got a deeper problem on our hands.
