Dozens of students are protesting throughout the country against a bill allotting millions in state funds to yeshiva students, which they say is a discriminating measure.
Students at Bar Ilan University are threatening to close major roads around the university. Meanwhile, students in Jerusalem are threatening to block access roads to Maale Adumim. Ben Gurion University will hold an hour long protest.

How can we expect the Israeli Public to pay for something that unfourtanatley have no intrest in? Ideally Torah should be learnt for free. The Gemara is replete with stories of Tananim who refused to benifit from their Torah studies. Even if today Torah Scholars are paid for their studies in Kollel or teaching in Yeshiva can we force those who do not wan’t to contribute to pay? Furthermore even if the stipend is passed it is only a band-aid and does not deal with the real issue that the structure of long term Kollel study for the masses is not economocly viable for many people.

I understand Hebrew University students protesting. They are mostly secular and so do not understand the value of learning Torah.
But students at Bar Ilan…..the flagship Dati Leumi (Religious Zionist) University.
If anyone ever doubted the krumkeit of Mizrachi, they can put their doubts at rest!
Who says that they don’t have an interest in it? Why does the government have to support people forever and ever in kollel?
I know a couple of families where the husband is in kollel and the wife doesn’t work. Please tell me why a kollel wife deserves to be a stay at home mother while I work full time? I think that the stipend on some level encourages this behavior. You can’t have both spouses not working. Maybe if there weren’t stipends in place forever on both university and kollel students there might actually be money for more money for each child that all families get each month. There are families that both parents work and are still struggling, who are also trying to raise Torah families.
If the Torah learning means so much to the charedi lifestyle then all the women should be working and once they can’t anymore ,the men should go to work.
Chayalah – you are being motzi shem ra on an entire community.
A large proportion of students at Bar Ilan are not from the Dati Leumi camp for a whole host of reasons. Therefore those who demonstated don’t necessarily represent this camp.
The Mizrachi movement has produced and continues to produce fine bnei torah who also are moser nefesh in the army for Clal Yisrael. Who are we to judge who is Frum in the eyes of the Ribona shel olam ( which is all that counts).
Please try and display a small amount of ahavat yisrael especially to those who have a different hashkafa from you.
