The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote next week on a resolution calling for President Bush to move the American Embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, strengthening Israel’s position against recurring diplomatic efforts to take away its capital.
The resolution, which passed the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on May 23, commemorates the 40th anniversary of Israel’s victory in the Six Day War that unified Jerusalem. It also calls on Mr. Bush to adhere to the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which authorized the funds to begin moving the embassy and declared that it was American policy to recognize the city as the capital of the Jewish state.
It is interesting to note that during his 2000 campaign, President Bush said, “As soon as I take office I will begin the process of moving the U.S. ambassador to the city Israel has chosen as its capital.”

As of the biggest supporters of President Bush I loudly say SHAME ON YOU MR PRESIDENT!!!
I know your heart want’s you to do the right thing. In the past you have not let world views cloud your judgement, please dont let them now.
What is Congress voting on?
AS Town crier noted, it is already US law and policy to move the embassy?
Sounds like lots of election year attention getting.
US does not have the ability or option to move the embassy.
WHY? They will not capture a majority in the Senate or House, plus the State Department is bound to the Arab oil buck.
who cares where it is ?
I think it is worth the fight get some backbone ged
When they free Pollard they will move it to Yerushalaim.
Let’s put the American Embassy in Sderot!!!
President Bush is unfortunately not what we thought he is. He is an extreme liberal in Republican clothing.
He has not really supported Israel as is evident with the machinations that Condoleeza Rice has done. I wouldn’t expect anything from him.
In any case, why is this issue important from a Torah point of view?
Jerusalem is the eye of the universe, the seat of the holy temple, the place of spirituality, belongs to the Jews and should be acknowledged so by the world, since it increases Kavod Shamayim.
The way that Jerusalem will get recognized as eye of the universe etc. is by the Torah and virtuous deeds that its inhabitants perform. I’ve never heard of a mitzva of pirsumei Yerushalaim, especially not from a diplomatic point of view.

–> I am impressed that every time I return to this site the posts become more and more laughable. Every time that I thought I saw the limit, some new “maven” comes forth with an even bigger whopper.
