500 talmidim of the Ohr Schrage Talmid Torah protested outside Kikar Safra, Jerusalem City Hall on Monday shouting “Stop the racism”. A wall of the structure protected and designated as a ‘preserved structure’ collapsed and the city is not permitting the school to rebuild it.
A representative of the parents said “Unfortunately, we are not Ashkenazim, and we do not live in a villa in Beit HaKerem. City officials do not pay attention to us. The city is not permitting us to rebuild or offering any alternate solution.
The children shouted “Send the mayor home! Resign!” the children, ages 3-13, recited tehillim and slichos, and carried signs against city officials. Then they pulled out soccer balls and began playing in the promenade at City Hall, seeking to send home the point that they are without a building.
The talmid torah was established about 15 years ago, now serving 500 talmidim of the Sephardi community.
