Hungarian Delegation Visits Kiryat Motzkin & Expresses Support for Israel

A delegation of public officials from Hungary, including Deputy Mayor Laszlo Nagy of the Hungarian city of Nyiregyhaza, city council members and others today (Tuesday – June 8th) toured Nyiregyhaza’s sister city of Kiryat Motzkin and presented Kiryat Motzkin Mayor Chaim Tzuri with a petition signed by over 500 Hungarians, who sought to express their support – inter alia – for Israel’s counter-terrorism policy.

After reading the petition, which was organized by Nyiregyhaza City Council Member Karoly Lengyel, who is also a member of the visiting delegation, Deputy Mayor Nagy declared that, “The Israeli action against the flotilla was justified.  It was done in order to prevent an attack on the sovereignty of the State of Israel and we should all understand the importance of this.”  Members of the delegation said that, “The time has come for the world to unite against terrorism.

Deputy Mayor Nagy noted that Mr. Lengyel had organized demonstrations in support of Israel in Nyiregyhaza, and that before Hungary’s recent elections; the latter had also organized a major demonstration against racism and the extremist party in Hungary.

Kiryat Motzkin Mayor Tzuri told the visitors that, “The residents of the State of Israel are proud of you and thank you for understanding that we must fight terrorism and protect our citizens.  No country in the world would allow rockets to fall on it and that its citizens should be exposed to deadly acts of terrorism.  IDF soldiers are an example for soldiers the world over.”

The aforesaid petition is as follows: “We, the citizens of Nyiregyhaza assure our brother city of Kiryat Motzkin and the State of Israel of our support.  We consider the breaking of the naval blockade of Gaza as a provocation and we proclaim that Israel, like all other recognized states, had, has and will have the right to protect itself and the lives and security of its citizens.”
