The secularists affiliated with the Free Jerusalem Party are continuing their efforts against the growing chareidi community in the capital’s Kiryat Yovel neighborhood, calling on Mayor Nir Barkat to cut funding to the chareidi community center in the area, releasing offensive materials that support a continuation of the “ghetto policies that existed in Europe” against the local chareidi community, the daily HaMevaser reports.
The secularists decry the ongoing efforts by Yahadut HaTorah and Shas, which they insist result in compromised rights for the non-frum community in the city in general, and in Kiryat Yovel in particular.
Councilman Yosef Deutsch is quoted as explaining efforts by the non-frum to depict Kiryat Yovel’s chareidi community as an insignificant number of residents will not succeed, for in actuality, the chareidim represent a prominent number of the community’s residents.
Deutsch is quoted as adding that Yahadut HaTorah and Shas will make sure that the area’s chareidim will receive what they are entitled to as other residents in the community and throughout the city.
