After receiving approval from the District Planning Board, the Jerusalem – Tel Aviv rail line is moving ahead with Tunnel 2, near Shar HaGuy. The tunnel is an important component of the new project, which will one day G-d willing enable commuters to travel from one city to another in 28 minutes.
The entire project includes two lanes spanning 38 kilometers and a station at Binyanei Ha’uma and five tunnels.
Israel Railways has a number of challenges regarding the rail project including cutting the tunnels which run over 11 kilometers, using the most advanced equipment. These tunnels will be near Binyanei Ha’uma (Jerusalem Convention Center) and the central bus station. At those locations, the train will run 80 meters underground for a length of 300 meters.
