hello Zion Flag. This railway will be a shuttle from Tachana Merkazit to Kikar Hashabbat. The Hareidim are worried about the people coming into Geula using this train. Also Hareidi youth might be tempted to go to Yafo st. now that it is a quick and easy train ride.
I hear zionflag’s question. Traffic is a bad thing. If kids are going to Yafo st. I think they are smart enough to get there on their own. Is there something else that they are against ?
We have to keep the chilonim as far away as possible from the chareidi neighborhoods.

They may be against the mixed seating on the train. Who knows, maybe the advertisements too.?
sfardi – People come into KikarShabbos all day long from different neighborhoods by foot and by bus, like, so what?
getting to zion st, is 10blocks walk from shabbos square, cheaper and quicker by foot, so why WAS THERE A DEMOSTRATION?
simple – and viceversa
zionflag,
I’m with you on this, If some kid wants to go Yafo st. he’ll get there either way. The traffic there is terrible, and it’s about time they’re doing something about it.
The people there are allways protesting, it seems like they constantly look for something to protest about. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!
I wish someone had the guts to protest these protests. It would be great to form the ‘Vaad of Torah Jews against Useless Protests” Every time these guys would rally against something crazy like trains the vaad would form a counter protest. Someone should stick up for sanity.
I think they’re protesting against the new influx of people who will be travelling through there neighborhood who normally would not but now the standard mass trasit will bring them into those neighborhoods. Meaning until now most of the unwanted pedestrian traffic which comes into meah shearim is by people who want to come there whether they are desired by the locals or not but with this new rail system a major part of it will have to travel through meah shearim people who would have never gone before. Also now they are going to get rid of many of the existing bus lines meaning you’ll have to use the rail system making the only way to travel to many parts of yerushalayim through the less desirable parts of the city be it the adults or the children whom the adults don’t want them to go through there but now are forced to with out any other sorce of transit
YW: Please expand this story to included the stated reason for the demonstration.

Have not read anywhere about bus routes becoming obsolete.
Who said the rail station will be in Meah Shaerim, it is reported that it will pass through M.S.? If you live in New Square then you have the ability to close off and enclose your kehilla, that also exists in some yishuvim in EY but not in Meah Shaerim.
