Friday was the grand re-opening of Highway 443 to PA (Palestinian Authority) motorists but few took advantage, opting to avoid the Jerusalem – Modi’in Highway that has been off limits to them during recent years.
IDF officials monitoring the situation report only 15 vehicles bearing PA license plates were seen on the highway on Friday after the road was closed to them for nine years. Each driver underwent a rigid security inspection, including leaving the vehicle and opening the trunk. They were handed an information sheet informing them what exists and entrances are available to them.
The IDF invested NIS 30 million to beef up security in light of the High Court of Justice decision opening the road to PA motorists.
