A US State Department official released a statement to the daily As-Safir, that “Hizbullah is a terrorist organization and we do not distinguish between the political and military wings of the group”. The statement was a clear response to calls to address the “more moderate elements” in Hizbullah; a statement released by John Brennan, Assistant to US President Barack Obama for Homeland Security & Counterterrorism.

Speaking to a Washington conference, he referred to Hizbullah as “an interesting organization”, adding “There is certainly the elements of Hizbullah that are truly a concern to us what they’re doing. And what we need to do is to find ways to diminish their influence within the organization and to try to build up the more moderate elements,” Brennan said Tuesday.
