Tax officials on Wednesday raided Magen David Adom offices in Holon and Yad Eliyahu, confiscating documents in both locations in connection to tax-related law-breaking.

Tax officials allege that non-medical items were brought into the country illegally, under the guise of being MDA equipment to eliminate the need to pay taxes on the items. MDA enjoys a tax exemption on its medical equipment and ambulances.

Customs officials allege that senior MDA officials abused their position and smuggled items in without paying tax, declaring the items as medical equipment.

Some senior MDA officials have been questioned by customs officials and others will be called in the future.

In response, MDA released a statement that senior officials in the organization turned to customs officials last month and it appears the inspectors are now following up.
