About a month after thieves broke into the vehicle of Israel Police Chief Dudi Cohen, the vehicle of the deputy commander of the Tel Aviv district was also broken into. Officials report they do not believe the thieves realized the vehicle they targeted belongs to Menashe Arbiv, but investigators admit the recent break-ins involving vehicles belonging to senior department commanders is cause for concern, not ruling out an organized effort to amass information regarding department operations.
Senior commanders are issued two sets of license plates for their unmarked department vehicle, red police plates and regular yellow ‘civilian’ plates. At the time of the break-in, the yellow plates were affixed to the vehicle, the daily HaMevaser reports. Nevertheless, the deputy commander’s uniform was hanging in the rear of the vehicle, visible to passers-by. Also visible was the vehicle’s magnetic blue roof light which was on the dashboard.
Arbiv reports he parked to attend a meeting and the vehicle was parked for no more than 35 minutes. Officials add the cellular telephone that was taken was his spare, not the phone containing number of senior security officials.
