In his determination to enforce the construction freeze, Defense Ministry Ehud Barak has reissued a demolition order that was originally issued in 1999, targeting the Ohd Yosef Chai Yeshiva in the Shomron community of Yitzhar. The yeshiva was originally located at the Kever Yosef complex but following Israel’s retreat from Shechem, it relocated to Yitzhar.
After hearing the announcement, some accuse Barak and the IDF of selecting Yitzhar due to recent confrontations at that location between residents and soldiers, questioning why illegal Arab sector construction continues unimpeded while authorities opt to enforce the law in the Jewish sector with an unprecedented zeal.
Yeshiva officials report the demolition order targets a 1,300 square meter permanent structure that was built in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and other government agencies.
In one response, MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Prof. Aryeh Eldad stated it is clear the administration has declared war on the communities throughout Yehuda and Shomron.
