The High Court of Justice has issued a ruling, the Rabbi Rafi Peretz, the IDF Chief Rabbi designate is indeed suitable for the post. The Defense Ministry and Defense Minister Ehud Barak called on the court to reject the petition, stating Lt.-Colonel Peretz is indeed suited for the post and he can assume the position which entails a promotion to the rank of brigadier-general.

The ruling was in response to opposition from bereaved families, who object to the appointment on the grounds Rabbi Peretz is not fitting for the position due to his actions in fatal incident that occurred during his career at an IAF chopper pilot.
