Defense Ministry Leaning Towards Legalizing Homes in Eli

Eitan Broshi, the Defense Ministry’s advisor on settlement affairs has submitted his position to the High Court of Justice indicating Defense Minister Ehud Barak is probing the facts on the ground pertaining to the HaYovel neighborhood in Yishuv Eli in Shomron to ascertain if it was built on state land.

Officials in Barak’s office on motzei shabbos released a message that the ministry has not yet changed its position on the homes in question, in both Eli and the Charsha outpost in Talmon.

Speaking with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) on Sunday morning, Broshi explained that if the previous administrations would have carried out the demolition orders as required, the current administration would not be facing this difficult reality, homes that are occupied by families. He stressed that the defense minister is very sensitive to the realities of the widows and orphans of IDF officers, but this does not change the fact that the ministry must and will act in accordance to the law.

The move comes amid mounting pressure against a Peace Now petition to the High Court of Justice, in which the organization insists the homes were built on Arab land, demanding they be demolished. Among the homes slated for demolition are those of the widows and children of IDF officers Eliraz Peretz HY”D and Ro’i Klein HY”D, both who fell in the line of duty.

As such, the ministry is calling on the court to reject the Peace Now petition now, to permit additional time for Barak and his staff to probe the legal status of the community in question.

Peace Now’s Yariv Oppenheim indicates the organization is willing to back down regarding the homes of the IDF heroes, but he is calling on the court to order the Defense Ministry to actualize the other demolition orders in other outposts throughout Yehuda and Shomron.

  1. Don’t expect too much from the leftist bully Barak. As for Yariv Oppenheimer, the name “Yariv” means “opponent”(maybe “OPPENheimer” has also something to do with “opponent”).That’s exactly what that piece of self-hating Eirev Rav is,the friend of the “poor, persecuted Arabs” and the enemy of the Jewish people.
