Prominent American law professor Alan Dershowitz responded to the recent report released by Yediot Achronot that reveals the dark past of former Justice Richard Goldstone, the champion of human rights who compiled the infamous Goldstone Report.
Speaking with Israel’s Channel 2, Dershowitz stated “Goldstone took a job as an apartheid judge. He allowed dozens of black people who were unfairly tried to be executed.”
In fact, the Yediot report reveals that in one case, Goldstone sentenced to young black men because they were found to have a video tape of a senior member of Nelson Mandela’s party. His enforcement of the racist Apartheid policies were consistent, including the acquittal of four policemen who broke into a white woman’s home, suspecting her of having a relationship with a black man. He also approved the whipping of blacks in response to their violence, but the honorable judge explains he never treated blacks unfairly. Actually he insists he tried to exhibit leniency whenever possible.
Dershowitz added “You know, a lot of people say we just followed the law, German judges… That’s what Mengele said too. That was Mengele’s defense and that was what everybody said in Nazi Germany. ‘We just followed the law.’ When you are in an apartheid country like South Africa, you don’t follow the law.”
